GALENA PEAK WILDERNESS RESERVE

Galena Peak Wilderness Reserve is a wild, untamed landscape located at the headwaters of Mill Creek on the Yucaipa Ridge in the San Bernardino Mountains. The reserve is 1,280 acres of sheer mountain cliffs and peaks including the upper mile of Mill Creek and the tallest privavelty owned peak in Southern California. The reserve spans from 6,700 feet elevation to the top of Galena Peak at 9,315 feet. Galena Peak is the tallest peak on the Yucaipa Ridge and is part of the Sierra Club's Hundred Peaks Section. The reserve serves as a critical wildlife cooridor and provides important lambing ground for San Gorgonio herd of Desert Bighorn Sheep.



LOCATION AND ACCESS

The reserve is located 2 miles east of the community of Forest Falls in Mill Creek Canyon. Access to the reserve requires cross country hiking; there are no trails that lead into the reserve. For the closest access point, visitors can park at the Falls Picnic Area and hike 2 miles east up Mill Creek Canyon. Parking requires a National Forest Adventure Pass!

    Explore at your own risk! Climbing to the peak will require scrambling over loose and steep rock slopes. Recommended for experienced wilderness explorers only!

    Galena Peak and surrounding areas experience summer monsoon storms that bring lightning and flash flooding. Check weather forecasts before exploring the region.
